Individual Psychotherapy
Starting the process of psychotherapy may feel uncomfortable, yet it is exciting too, as it offers a unique opportunity to alleviate
symptoms by understanding where they come from and why they are there.
The model used both for individual and couples treatment is psychodynamic psychotherapy, a method with a scientific record of
effectiveness for a variety of emotional conditions and particularly suited for personality problems and difficulties with past and present relationships.
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a therapeutic approach aimed at helping people bring to awareness their true emotions, so that they can better experience
and understand them. This approach is based on the belief that the underlying causes of psychological symptoms reside in our unconscious and these need
to be brought to light, so that their meaning can be understood and we can get to the root of the problems. This therapeutic process does not focus exclusively on superficial symptoms, but delves into deeper motivations, conflicts, wishes and fears that are causing and maintaining such symptoms.
Results are achieved in a collaborative atmosphere of emotional safety, trust and unconditional acceptance. Changes brought about by this treatment are
not meant to be temporary, but permanent, leading to maturational progress, the development of congruent values based on good self-esteem, and a better
understanding of needs and wishes. In turn, these improvements can lead to increased control over life decisions, and the establishment and enjoyment of intimate loving relationships.
All treatment information is private and confidential.
When appropriate, I collaborate with psychiatrists for prescription of psychotropic medications.
All sessions are 45 minutes in length. A 24 hour notice is required for cancellations.
